Importance of Consistent Elevation Height

When making a sensor replacement it is critical for the replacement sensor to be precisely at the same elevation as the original unit. Failure to mount the replacement unit at the same height as the original unit will result in faulty data as well as needing to re-survey.

To ensure proper and consistent mounting height, we will need to transfer the offset distance from the original to the replacement unit by marking both units at the same location on the respective PVC tubing.

• Replacement unit
• A camera
  • To take 3 pictures: 1) original unit 2) of both units with the marked mounting heights 3) replacement unit
• Sharpie

Tutorial Purpose and Deliverables

By the end of this tutorial you will have:

• Transferred the offset from the original unit to the replacement unit
• Made the replacement at the proper offset
• Taken 3 total pictures in order to document proper following of the procedure
  • Sharpie marking of the original mounted unit
  • Sharpie markings of both units unmounted, next to each other
  • Sharpie markings of the mounted replacement unit
• Shared the pictures with the Hohonu team
